berklee audition what to expect?
im a sophomore in high school 15 years old, and i've been playing guitar for 1 1/2 years so far. i LOVE it and play hours a day and don't intend to stop. I've had lessons with a private teacher who is a berklee alumni and still take lessons. what should i expect? i know my scale modes, all kinds of chords, but my sheet music reading is decent. i know how to read both bass and treble clef because i took piano when i was younger. how hard is it? it by the time i should be auditioning will it be enough.
btw i heard that rockers don't get in, i play a lot of jazz anyway but just curious is all. because there are some metal guitar players that are alumni so how did that happen?
It is completely untrue that rockers don't get in. They make up a huuuuuge percentage of Berklee students. People of literally every genre get in.
The audition requirements and guidelines are here: http://www.berklee.edu/admissions/general/guitar.html. Though everything is important, the most central part is your prepared piece. It gives you a chance to show your abilities and versatility and, most importantly, shows them who you are as a person and musician. Unlike at a lot of other schools, Berklee really wants to know what makes you unique as a musician- what and why you play, what you want to do with it, etc.
You sound like you have a pretty good knowledge of theory, so just continue to learn and practice what you know and you'll definitely be fine theory-wise. Lots of people come to Berklee with almost no knowledge of theory at all (but they don't do very well once they get here). When you arrive for orientation, you'll take a placement audition and a few exams for placement into classes.
